Despite all his shortcomings,* sometimes, out of nowhere, A just blows me away.

Tonight we went to an informational meeting by CCAI, an agency that does Chinese adoptions. Throughout the meeting, A looked pretty bored. Granted, I was pretty bored too, but I have several years of researching Chinese adoption under my belt. This meeting was a pretty basic “here is the process, this is how much it costs” kind of meeting. I was hoping this meeting would make A start thinking a little about the process. BUT, I was trying my hardest not to be too pushy, as that tends to backfire in our relationship (Damned if he isn’t just as stubborn as I am.)

As we were walking out of the meeting, we were discussing the precise burrito order A would be placing for me on his way home (Carnitas, pinto beans, two kinds of salsa, half rice, sour cream, guacamole, and LOTS OF TABASCO).

As I was stressing the importance of the Tabasco, he slapped his hands together and said “Let’s get this party started!”

Still in my Tabasco thoughts, I said “What party? The burrito party? Did you hear me say I want LOTS of Tabasco?”

“No. The ADOPTION party. I’m ready. Let’s do it.”

I swear my jaw dropped so far I stepped on it.
